Frequently Asked Questions
How effective is virtual speech therapy compared to in-person services?
Research and my own experience show that virtual speech therapy is just as effective as in-person services, especially for preschool and elementary students. The online format also allows for interactive materials, engaging activities, and flexibility that often increase student motivation
How do you keep young students engaged in virtual sessions?
I use a variety of evidence-based strategies such as interactive digital tools, visual supports, and short, structured activities to maintain attention. Sessions are personalized to the student’s interests and developmental level, and I frequently involve parents or staff to help with engagement when needed.
Can virtual therapy meet IEP requirements?
Yes. I design therapy plans that align directly with each student’s IEP goals, provide consistent progress monitoring, and actively participate in IEP meetings. All services and documentation are fully compliant with state and district requirements.
Most districts already have the necessary technology — a computer or tablet with internet access, a webcam, and audio. I work with each district to ensure the setup is simple and user-friendly, and I can provide guidance for troubleshooting if issues arise.
What technology is required, and who provides it?
How do you handle confidentiality and student privacy online?
I follow FERPA and HIPAA guidelines to protect student privacy. Sessions are conducted through secure, encrypted platforms approved for educational use, and all student records are stored and shared according to district policies.
Can parents or staff participate in sessions?
Absolutely! Collaboration is a key part of my approach. Parents, paraprofessionals, or teachers can be included in sessions when appropriate to support student success and carryover of skills across settings.
How do you coordinate with teachers and other service providers?
I maintain open communication with the school team through emails, progress updates, and participation in meetings. Collaboration ensures therapy strategies are reinforced in the classroom and across environments.
